Finding Miracles in the Backyard

After school yesterday, my daughter wanted to take her "excavation tools" outside to find some dinosaur bones. She was convinced that if she found the right rock, she would find a fossil or two. I didn't want her to go out at first because of the horribly icy conditions of our driveway and paths to the animals, but I finally decided to let her do her thing. However, the other reason would be that I knew she wouldn't find any and didn't want her to be disappointed. When did we become such pessimists? Here is my daughter, brimming with faith, fully expecting to find some ancient miracle in the yard and I'm ready to shut her down. It's hard to know when it happens, but obviously somewhere between childhood and adulthood, we stop believing in miracles. Yesterday was a huge wake-up call for me. While she didn't find any yesterday, she still came in the house with a smile on her face ready to try again the next day. You never know, miracles still might happen.

"So Jesus said to them, Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you."
Matthew 17:20
