A month or so ago, a childhood friend left a very special gift in my mailbox. She and her daughter had put together a scrapbook for me to finish. She had even gone so far as to tell me where to journal and where to put a picture. Granted, I have always wanted to try scrapbooking, but one trip down the aisle at Michael's can be very intimidating. I let it sit for quite a while until this weekend. My daughter and I spent Sunday afternoon working on it. I had called my mom during the experience in my usual panic. "I don't think I'm doing this right. There has to be a certain flow and my pictures aren't straight." My mom responded with her usual "support" voice (which she's had to use for so many years), "It doesn't matter, does it? If you like it, then it's perfect. " When I finally finished the book, I couldn't help but be filled with joy. I had made it about my daughter, for my daughter. There hasn't been a day that I haven't looked at it. I am incredibly thankful that someone took the time to give me this amazing gift. Maybe I'll be brave enough to pursue this new hobby in the coming new year, but for the time being, I have my own book of joy.
"These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full."

Welcome to the scrapbooking world!! I am glad you got to try it out. I just went to a totally digital scrapbook format which is way easier and very fun!!!! I find it less intimidating too.
Put away your Type A Jenny and let your inner Artistic Bohemian Jenny emerge! Scrapbook freely and with abandon!
P.S. Secretly though ... you should know that as a self-admitted Type A, I only let my Inner Artistic Bohemian Krisianna emerge on scheduled days (and when the house is clean and in order!). HA HA HA!
I was the same way when I first tried scrapbooking! I thought it had to look like the pages in the magazines, but then I decided it was my artistic side, not theirs, and just started to put it together. I still struggle with that perfect look, but then think back to my first attempt, and how it came together so nice after I stopped stressing. Yes, it's not one that would be featured in a magazine, but mom and dad loved it and that is all that matters! Have fun!!! =)
What a wonderful gift! I love that idea!
I too, get a little type A with my scrapbooking. But I will say this...when it is all done and I am looking at a completed scrapbook - I don't see the flaws, I see the love and time that I put in. I also just have some much fun sharing my scrapbooks with others! I hope you are able to sit and enjoy scrapbooking and let it be like Calgon..."take you away" to a place of relaxation and joy! -S
