Struggle brings growth. No matter how you slice it, if you're not challenged in some way, things become too easy and life becomes stagnant. I don't remember the person before cancer, but I'm sure she took a lot of things for granted. I catch myself doing that even now so I can imagine what it might have been like before! However, sometimes the burden is so incredibly heavy that it's hard to breath. That's when we're not supposed to lose heart. There's something good coming right around the corner if you're patient enough to wait and "see."
"Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal."
