A Date with Dad

My husband has been gone all week due to a class in the big city. While it was a good thing for him to go career-wise, we have definitely missed him and are anxious for his return tonight. During the middle of the week, I had the opportunity to go down and have dinner with him and stay. I struggled with the decision for a day or two because our daughter didn't think it was fair that I was going to be able to see him and she had to go to school. In the next breath, she would tell me it was okay. Finally, I made the decision to go despite her being unsure about it, and I'm so glad I did. We had a great time, and it broke up his long week. Upon returning, she had a blast at her Grandma and Grandpa's and didn't even feel left out. I guess the moral of this story is that you were a couple before you were parents. Even now as parents, I don't think anything makes a child feel more secure than knowing that her parents love each other and are completely devoted to each other. If she witnesses this example growing up, she'll come to expect it when she's older.

"A child's sense of security and well-being is primarily rooted in the stability of his home and family."
Dr. James Dobson
