This weekend we had my parents and another couple over for dinner. We usually go camping with this crew so it was a nice break in middle of winter to have the grilled steak dinner that we have for one of our outings. It was like tasting summer for one brief moment. During the evening, we talked about camping and how much we're looking forward to going more this year. Just talking about it made me think about the warmth of a campfire, the heat on your back as you hiked down to the creek, and the joy on our daughter's face when she catches a fish. As white and long as our winter has been, Saturday night was good for me. It made me focus on what lies ahead and all the fun that needs to be had. I felt warm. I felt at peace. I felt myself looking ahead instead of the circumstances of the present.
"Let us acknowledge the Lord; let us press on to acknowledge him. As surely as the sun rises, he will appear; he will come to us like the winter rains, like the spring rains that water the earth."
