Cleaning Closets

Our family has decided to have a garage sale this weekend so I've been trying to clean out some of the stuff we have not used in some time. I used to be horrible about hanging on to things, but I would like to think that I'm better about this in recent years. This trait has been passed down to our daughter, unfortunately. She wants to keep everything, forever. I try to explain the logic that if we don't get rid of some of the old things, we won't have room for new things. The old stuff will just pile up and get in the way. It hit me this morning that there is a life lesson in all of this. If we hang on to the emotional "junk" in our lives and not get rid of it, eventually it will prevent us from growing as a person. Whether it's not forgiving someone (or ourself for that matter) or continually bringing up the past, we can not move on until we purge ourselves from the negativity.

There's no point in burying a hatchet if you're going to put up a marker on the site.
