We love being out in the country. In fact, I could never imagine living in town until perhaps I couldn't physically keep up with my chores. The simple life suits me and our family. Our daughter shares the same appreciation and is still wanting to be a vet. This phase has lasted longer than others so it's definitely a possibility we'll be paying for vet school. This passion was tested twice last weekend, but she still wants to be an animal doctor. See, her grandfather is raising goats and these goats are starting to have babies. Well, sometimes on the ranch you lose a couple due to unexpected circumstances. Our daughter got to meet a baby and spend some time with it only to learn later that it didn't make it through the night. This didn't phase her much. In all honestly, she has already dealt with a lot of animals deaths in recent months so her ability to accept outcomes like this was really no surprise. However, I thought perhaps a real live birth might freak her out a bit. Nope. This weekend, she saw it all happen right in front of her and once again, no big deal. So maybe yes, she'll be a vet. She's definitely working on her resume as she grows up.
Let children walk with Nature, let them see the beautiful blendings and communions of death and life, their joyous inseparable unity, as taught in woods and meadows, plains and mountains and streams of our blessed star, and they will learn that death is stingless indeed, and as beautiful as life.
